Finding Natural Energy
When the mid-year slump hits, many of us reach for an extra coffee or sugary snack. While these can give a temporary lift, they often lead to crashes later. Breathwork, on the other hand, is a natural, sustainable way to energise the body and sharpen the mind — no caffeine required.
How Breathwork Increases Energy
When we breathe shallowly (which happens when we’re tired or stressed), less oxygen reaches our cells, leading to fatigue and brain fog. By practising energising breathwork techniques, we:
Deliver more oxygen to the body and brain.
Stimulate circulation and awaken the nervous system.
Sharpen focus and concentration.
Lift mood and motivation.
Energising Breath Technique: Breath of Fire (Kapalabhati)
This is a traditional yoga breath known for boosting energy and clearing mental fog.
How to do it:
Sit tall with a straight spine.
Take a deep inhale.
Begin short, sharp exhales through the nose, letting the inhale happen naturally in between.
Start slowly (about one exhale per second), then build up pace.
Continue for 20–30 seconds, rest, then repeat up to 3 rounds.
⚠️ Note: Skip this one if you’re pregnant or have high blood pressure.
Everyday Energy Boosts
In addition to structured practices, try these micro-moments:
3 big deep breaths before switching tasks.
Standing stretches with breath to increase circulation.
2 minutes of energising breath mid-afternoon instead of another coffee.
A Sustainable Lift
Unlike caffeine, which spikes and drops, breathwork builds long-term resilience and steady energy. The more regularly you practise, the more naturally energised and alert you’ll feel throughout the day.
This June, try swapping your extra latte for a few minutes of breathwork. Your body (and sleep cycle!) will thank you.
